Clients anticipating pool set up as hotter climate will increase | Information

CHICOPEE, MA (WGGB / WSHM) – With winter milder than usual, a local pool company is busy with customers looking for a start to the summer season.

But is it still too early?

Western Mass News is getting replies about what can and cannot currently be installed.

It was a pretty unusual winter in western Massachusetts, with little to no snow on the ground, and now lots of people, including client James Chesnis, are jumping to more summery activities.

“I’m just picking up supplies for my spa … I have my TV there. I have my DVD player and all, so I watch movies while I’m at the spa,” explained Chesnis.

Salesman Scott Alexander of Teddy Bear Pools and Spas in Chicopee told Western Mass News that they answered more calls than usual because of the warmer temperatures and that many were excited to be one step ahead of the game.

“A lot of people have seen well how winter wasn’t here, they probably won’t be spring, so let’s jump in right away,” said Alexander.

Alexander told us the biggest misunderstanding was the thought that due to the lack of snow on the ground, swimming pools can now be installed. He said it can’t start until April.

“The ground needs to be thawed first. The problem with this is that we can’t bring a rig to clear and level with a bobcat when the ground is still frozen. It’ll leave the uneven ground for us and there’s no going to get it right, “explained Alexander.

While it isn’t currently warm enough to install swimming pools, hot tubs are a different story.

“A hot tub or the endless pool can be set up all year round. For the hot tubs, when it snows, we have a toboggan-like apparatus to bring it to your property or inside where you like your property,” explained Alexander .

Alexander said that while they take care of the heavy lifting, he asks clients to help them beforehand.

“If there is snow out there, we just ask them to shovel it away so we can properly place the spa,” remarked Alexander.

While they can easily install hot tubs this winter season, Alexander has one more suggestion …

“Something proactive about getting the hot humid air out of the area, even if it’s a porch that people think, ‘Gee, it has screens and such.’ Like a bathroom, I recommend being proactive about getting the hot humid air out pushing the area out so you don’t have to worry about mold and mildew, “said Alexander.
